FCC Mandated Caller ID Authentication

Overview

In an effort to combat Robocalls and other unwanted telemarketing calls, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has mandated that all telephone carriers implement Caller-ID authentication on all outgoing calls.  The acronym for this protocol is STIR/SHAKEN.

The first implementation step of STIR/SHAKEN was completed on June 30, 2021 when all carriers where required to digitally “Sign” the caller ID on all outgoing calls.  This ensures that they are the legitimate owner of the phone number and will be added to a Robocall Mitigation database.

The next step will be implemented on September 28, 2021- Intermediate providers and terminating voice service providers will be prohibited from accepting traffic from voice service providers not listed in the Robocall Mitigation Database.

What this means for you

Charleston Telecom Solutions, LLC is in full compliance with the FCC STIR / SHAKEN Robocall mitigation plan.

When fully implemented, outgoing calls can no longer be “spoofed” and can be traced back to the call originator.  It will also provide an effective tool for law enforcement.  This will result in a huge decline in Robocalls and violations of the Do Not Call list.
