Are you tired of receiving robo calls? You know the ones where you receive a call from what appears to be a local number, only to hear an automated voice at the other end telling you about really cheap health insurance or some other product they can offer you.
Maybe you try blocking the calling number, but that doesn’t work either because the robo callers can change the outgoing phone number at will – and the outgoing phone number may not even be a real number. You won’t be able to keep up with the blocked calling number list anyway.
This is called Caller ID spoofing and many telemarketing companies use this technique.
This is becoming a major issue with businesses lines as well as residential lines and cell phones.
The FCC has recently stated that they would like to see a solution to caller id spoofing developed by the phone number carriers, but that solution my not be available until some time in the future. In the mean time here are a few things you can do:
- Press 2, then hang up on the call – you can try pressing 2 before hanging up, and if the telemarketing company is somewhat legitimate, it may remove you from their calling list.
- Never do business with them. Robo calling must give them some results, otherwise they wouldn’t continue doing it.
- Subscribe to a Robo caller screening service such as Nomorobo.
Nomorobo maintains a database of robo caller numbers and uses this database to screen callers to your number, preventing many of the robo callers from reaching you. They have an app for smart phone users and they also have a way of integrating with landlines as well.
Charleston Telecom Solutions, LLC has recently integrated Nomorobo into our Hosted VoIP platform. Here is how the integration works:
- When an incoming caller calls your line – even before your phone rings-our system checks the incoming caller id against the Nomorobo call data base and looks for a match. When a match is found, you have the option of marking the call as “Spam” and letting it ring, send it to a voice mailbox with a pre-recorded message, or hanging up on the caller.
- Calling numbers not in the Nomorobo database ring in normally.
No system can stop all robo calls but Our Hosted VoIP system integrated with Nomorobo can significantly reduce the number of these interrupting calls.
